The UK government has announced that academics and researchers entering the UK semiconductor sector will get their visa fees reimbursed.
The announcement was made by the Chancellor Rachel Reeves at the World Economic Forum in Davos as part of a wider package of measures aimed at bringing the world's very best talent to the UK.
The aim is to make the UK the premier destination for global investment and the first choice for top talent coming to work, study and build businesses.
Global companies will also find it quicker to expand in Britain via a new offer to fast-track their sponsor licenses.
"We welcome the announcement from the Chancellor to award refunds on visa fees for researchers and academics coming into the UK semiconductor sector. This is vital to ensuring the UK attracts the best talent and remains globally competitive.
To fully maximise the UK’s potential, we need to both attract international talent and nurture our own future workforce. This starts from improving STEM provision in schools to increasing pathways for our learners, students and graduates to enter the semiconductor sector.”
