Backed by at least £19 million in government funding, the UKSC will serve as a national independent hub to accelerate growth and innovation in the industry. The permanent Steering Group will be recruited in 2026.

The Interim Steering Group, co-chaired by Jonathan Flint CBE, Chair of CSA Catapult’s board and Chair of Oxford Technical Services and Jalal Bagherli CBE, is made up of leading experts from across industry and academia. They will guide the development and strategic direction of the Centre.

The Committee will ensure the Centre’s activities are closely aligned with sector priorities and that there is an ongoing dialogue with industry and academia.

The Group has agreed that the location of the UKSC office will be in the Knowledge Quarter of Kings Cross, London – an internationally accessible location with strong transport links.

The UKSC team will be geographically distributed across the UK to support clusters and regions.

The members of the Interim Steering Group are:

Dr Jalal Bagherli CBE - Chairman, PTSL, Chair, Nanoco technologies Plc, Co-chair of UK Semiconductor Advisory Panel

Jonathan Flint CBE – Chair of CSA Catapult and Chair of Oxford Technical Services

Nick McKeown - Professor Emeritus in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Science departments at Stanford University, visiting professor at Oxford University, board member of ARIA

Jillian Hughes – Head of Semiconductors, Techworks

Sean Redmond – President, Silicon Catalyst Europe

Jutta Meier – Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, IQE plc

Chris Bush - Deputy Director, Semiconductors at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT)

The UK Semiconductor Centre will act as a single gateway for international collaboration, making it easier for global firms and governments to connect with the UK industry and explore new partnerships.

Bringing together industry leaders, researchers, and government representatives, the UK Semiconductor Centre will act as a gateway for international partnerships, offering global companies and governments a single point of contact for engagement with the UK’s thriving semiconductor sector.

Through outcomes-driven activities—including the creation of R&D technology roadmaps, the establishment of communities of practice around core technologies, and enabling the scaling of semiconductor SMEs—the Interim Steering Committee will help cement the Centre’s mission to strengthen the UK’s role in global supply chains.
